Drop-In IPv6 Solutions for VxWorks

Interpeak has desiged a set of networking components that fit seamlessly into the VxWorks® operating system. This means that an existing VxWorks networking application can be upgraded to perform state-of-the-art IPv6 networking and security in a matter of hours.

IPNET and IPLITE TCP/IP Stacks
The foundation for all Interpeak networking protocols for VxWorks is the IPNET and IPLITE TCP/IP stacks. IPNET is a full featured and high performance dual mode IPv4/IPv6 stack for embedded systems. It includes advanced routing capabilities with a built-in IPsec industry-standard security protocol. IPLITE is an ultra compact IPv4/IPv6 host stack, designed for minimum footprint and maximum performance.

Interpeak also offers a range of additional Internet and Security protocol plug-ins for IPNET and IPLITE. Examples are SSH, SSL, IKE, DHCP, RIP, SNMP, FTP, PPPoE, L2TP and LDAP, enabling embedded systems to take full advantage of the Internet. Interpeak VxWorks Product Architecture

Seamless Driver Integration using WindNet MUX Layer
IPNET/IPLITE register as a service with the MUX layer in VxWorks and specify what Ethernet frame types they are interested in. Incoming ARP, RARP, IPv4, IPv6 and 802.1Q VLAN Ethernet frames are routed to IPNET/IPLITE using this mechanism. Both send and receive is handled using the MUX layer.

Seamless Socket Integration As Socket Backend
IPNET/IPLITE also register as socket backends with the sockLib. When an application requests a socket for an address family, the sockLib forwards the socket calls to the correct socket backend. This is actually how the WindNet TCP/IP stack operates, and provides 100% binary compatibility with WindNet. Hence, an application built with the WindNet stack will not notice any difference in the transition to IPNET/IPLITE. It will make socket calls to the sockLib for its networking, and under the hood, the sockLib will route the calls to IPNET/IPLITE.

Proven Design, Extensively Tested with Third-Party Products
All Interpeak networking protocols are tested with leading third-parties for routing, middleware and network management solutions such as IP Infusion, Data Connection, NextHop and SNMP Research. Interpeak’s TCP/ IP stacks are already in tens of thousands of products worldwide, used by cutting-edge equipment such as Edge Routers, Residential Gateways, Cable/DSL Modems, DSLAM, Radio Base Stations, Mobile Phones/Terminals, Medical, Industrial and others.

Example:
A design using VxWorks 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 or 6.0 needs enhanced features for the networked product. Without altering the VxWorks network stack, easily add:

  • Secure Shell (SSH) - Secure Telnet, Secure FTP and Port Forwarding
  • Secure Socket Library (SSL)
  • MIB Instrumented RADIUS - Full accounting and authentication
  • Firewall - Filter on IPv4 and v6 protocols and ports - IP Filter rules
  • Internet Key Exchange - PF_Key Socket Interface

… and handle the latest TCP/ IP issues and developments as they arise.

Even better: Upgrade your standard VxWorks Network Stack to Interpeak’s IPNET stack, and add:

  • Dual- mode IPv4/v6 TCP/IP stack
  • Virtual Router for Multicast/Unicast
  • Quality of Service and VLAN Tagging
  • User API for Tunneling: IP-IP, GRE and IPv6
  • Route population, de-population and software-based forwarding
  • Integrated IPsec for IPv4 and v6 – Interfaces to IKE through PF_ Key Sockets
  • Mobile IP

No need to alter current version of the operating system, BSP, device drivers or socket-based applications. Let your OS vendor focus on the OS. We will handle the networking and security. Today, tomorrow, and for the long term.
